Bab Marakech - Authentic Moroccan Dining Experience in Ottawa

I recently had dinner at Bab Marrakech, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming; it truly felt like eating at home, yet at the same time, it transported me straight to Morocco. I tried the tagine and the pastilla, and both dishes were outstanding. The tagine was rich, tender, and full of comforting, slow-cooked spices. The pastilla was beautifully layered with the perfect balance of sweet and savory, definitely a highlight of the meal. The appetizers were also delicious and set a great tone for the rest of the dinner. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and carefully prepared. Overall, Bab Marrakech offers an inviting, home-like dining experience with genuine Moroccan flavors. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and authentic taste of Morocco.

I stumbled on Bab Marakech by chance while passing by the plaza, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a bit of a hidden little spot, but once you step inside you’re greeted with the smell of real, home-style Moroccan cooking. I really love Moroccan food, so I decided to stop in and check it out, and I was not disappointed. The menu is full of authentic Moroccan dishes, but I decided to try their breakfast section. I went for the M’kila and had two versions, one with tomato and egg and another with egg and Klia (Smoked Meat). both were incredibly tasty, rich, and full of flavour. I also tried their authentic breads, Baghrir and Msemen, which were fresh, soft, and perfect for dipping and scooping. On top of the amazing food, the staff here are honestly among the best I’ve encountered. It’s a family-run business, and you can really feel the warmth, care, and pride in the way they welcome you and explain the dishes.

This place doesn’t just serve Moroccan food, it serves memory and celebration. The menu is centred around dishes you’d find at a Moroccan wedding, and one bite in, I was transported straight back to long tables, shared plates, and the quiet magic of eating in Morocco itself. The flavours are rich, generous, and deeply comforting. The mint tea is fragrant and perfectly poured, the kind you linger over, and the service is warm, attentive, and unhurried. It feels celebratory without being loud, soulful without trying too hard. A true love letter to Moroccan hospitality. 10/10, no notes.

Absolutely loved my experience at this Moroccan restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and truly authentic. The service was excellent, attentive, polite, and very professional. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, just like home. Highly recommended! I’ll definitely be returning soon.
